Skyline Trail,  Olympic National Park,  Jul 12, 2005 - Jul 16, 2005     page 11 / 52

The trail continued climbing for several hundred feet, then descended quite a bit. This long uphill-downhill pattern was common along the Skyline Trail. It was quite tiring.

We finally saw more breaks in the clouds in early afternoon. We neared the ridge which much of the Skyline trail follows. Some great views to the west allowed us to see down Alta Creek. To the east we could see down long, wooded valleys, like the one shown below.

This valley forms the headwaters of the South Fork of Kimta Creek. Click on the image for a panoramic view.
