The air was cool and damp. The trees and brush were also quite wet, so I donned my rain pants, raincoat and boots and began hiking. It was 11:00am.

As expected, with a 45-pound pack on my back, I quickly began overheating. I removed the coat a few miles later.

It was quiet except for the birds singing and water dripping.
