I pressed on. About 4:30pm a light rain began. The 70% chance of forecast rain had finally arrived. I donned my raincoat and kept moving, reaching 12-mile shelter at 5:15pm. I knew that 16-mile was just another 3/4-mile, but I decided that twelve miles was plenty for the first day.

I quickly put up a tarp and got my gear stowed underneath. Fortunately, the rain stopped while I was putting up the shelter. A few light showers returned during the evening.
