LaCrosse Loop '15,  Olympic National Park,  Sep 10, 2015 - Sep 16, 2015     page 25 / 47

The next morning there was a little fog flowing over the ridge into the basin. The weather forecast was for increasing chance of showers over the next few days.

I packed my gear after breakfast and headed up the ridge over Hart Lake again. I passed through Fisher's Notch and followed the old hunter's trail. The trail was very easy to follow, though it was rather steep in a few spots. The last 200 feet of the path was rather obscured by deep meadow grass, but it was well matted, and I had no trouble finding the Oneil Pass trail, roughly 1000 vertical feet below the ridge. This shortcut saved me about four miles of hiking and about 800 feet of climbing, as compared to hiking through Oneil Pass.

The way trail through Fisher's Notch is marked by this small cairn along the Oneil Pass trail
