Leaving the road, one also leaves most of the trees and their protection. The wind was much more noticeable here. Due to some icy slopes along the trail, we were told to follow the ridge, taking care to remain well clear of the snow cornice.

Travel up this slope was straightforward, but exposed to the elements. Mixed rain and snow pelted us lightly from behind. We continued up the hill, cresting the top to survey what lied beyond.
