Hurricane Ridge,  Olympic National Park,  January 28, 2012     page 1 / 13

With recent storms having dumped plenty of snow in the lowlands, we were confident that the conditions would be excellent for a snowshoe hike in the hills. Libby and I headed to Hurricane Ridge for the day.

As we passed through Port Angeles the rain was a bit discouraging, but we pressed on. The road was a bit slick on the drive to the parking lot, but manageable. The weather was better at the summit, as we expected. There was just a little precipitation, along with some low clouds.

We proceeded westward, along the road, with plans to climb Hurricane Hill. The road meanders along the ridge, nestled in the trees. The trees provide a good wind break, making for comfortable travel.
