Grand Pass '12,  Olympic National Park,  Aug 22, 2012 - Aug 24, 2012     page 23 / 86

Libby and I often make instant oatmeal for breakfast in the backcountry. This particular morning, however, we prepared a bag of freeze-dried scrambled eggs and bacon. In preparation, the meal doesn't look very appealing, but once rehydrated, it is pretty tasty, as long as one remembers to poor off the excess water before eating. And that's what I did.

I poured off the excess water next to a nearby tree. Ten minutes later, one of the resident does arrived to inspect the salty remains. Apparently, it was quite tasty, for she spent several minutes there, licking the rocks and roots nearby.
