Departing Moose Lake I began my ascent. As I looked up, I spotted a couple of marmots running toward their respective dens. As is typical of these large rodents, curiosity keeps them watching approaching hikers, until they get too close for comfort. At that time they simply dive into their holes. Often they'll whistle loudly to warn others of the approaching danger, but I got no whistle during this encounter.
