Grand Pass '13,  Olympic National Park,  Aug 14, 2013 - Aug 15, 2013     page 23 / 45

I layed in my warm sleeping bag for a while after waking. I finally crawled out for my morning coffee. As I enjoyed the warm drink, I watched a small doe across the meadow. She had an unusual hobble. As I watched her, I realized that she had a broken leg. She had apparently recieved a break in her femur. The bone had not healed, but the flesh had, to some extent. The lower portion of her leg was dead, and dangled as she moved. It was heartbraking to see. I've never witnessed anything quite like this in the hills.
