Flapjack Lakes '08,  Olympic National Park,  Oct 11, 2008 - Oct 12, 2008     page 1 / 36

I was able to schedule several days off in October for another long, fall hike. While this initially sounded like a good idea, the long range forecast looked wet for the latter portion of my time off. I changed plans and headed up overnight to Flapjack Lakes.

I initially visited the area in my teens, with my father and brother. We stayed there a couple of nights, making a day trip to climb Mt. Gladys. This trip would include a similar visit to the high country, but with a little more exploration above the tree line.

I began my hike at the Staircase trailhead, around 11:00 AM. The autumn hike up the North Fork Skokomish River was as I expected, full of fall colors.

Autumn color can be seen within the 1985 Beaver Fire area
