Flapjack Lakes '06,  Olympic National Park,  May 19, 2006     page 6 / 11

In another thirty minutes I arrived at the Flapjack Lakes trail junction. I ate some lunch and thought about my next move. The Flapjack Lakes trail is a tough one, gaining about 2400 feet in four miles. Even if I could not get all the way to the lakes, the trail was worth a look, since it had been several years since I had hiked it.

It was obvious, as I began the Flapjack Lakes trail, that the path had not seen many visitors since last season. The salal encroached upon the path, and many twigs and branches laid in the trail. About a quarter mile up the hill there was some large windfall near one switchback. I came to an old campsite where the path turned near a creek. As I climbed, the forest opened up a bit, providing views to the west, up the Six Stream drainage.
