Cispus Pass,  Goat Rocks Wilderness Area,  Sep 9, 2007 - Sep 10, 2007     page 12 / 16

Another mile and I had reached Cispus Pass, elevation 6473. My original plan was to follow an old trail from Cispus Pass, eastward, under the cliffs of Gilbert Peak, until it reached the southern ridge of the peak. (This route is described in Fred Beckey's Cascade Alpine Guide, Vol. 1.) I could see remnants of the trail at some points, but the route involved more than I was interested in tackling. My hand had swollen more during the morning hike, and was becoming increasingly uncomfortable. Had I not had the discomfort to deal with, I probably would have followed the old path to the summit. Instead, I continued into Cispus basin, perhaps a half mile further and stopped to admire the view.
