Appleton Pass-Cat Lake Traverse,  Olympic National Park,  Sep 8, 2008 - Sep 12, 2008     page 71 / 71

As we passed Deer Lake, we began to see more hikers. Some were headed to the lake to stay overnight, and others were visiting just for the day. We continued down the rocky trail to the Sol Duc trail. This three mile section felt like five. There are rocks and roots the whole way down the hill, making our feet particularly sore. Ouch. We finally rejoined the Sol Duc trail and had a leisurely hike out to the car. Together we covered about 25 miles. I traveled about ten more on my climb of Cat Peak. This was a wonderful trip, with fabulous weather. It was fun to get out with Dad again. He still gets excited seeing the wild backcountry. I guess I know where I received that trait!
