Appleton Pass-Cat Lake Traverse,  Olympic National Park,  Sep 8, 2008 - Sep 12, 2008     page 27 / 71

At this point I split from Dad for a brief trip into the basin south of Spread Eagle Pass. He stayed near the pass enjoying the view while I explored the basin, searching for an old shelter. Located somewhere in the basin is the old "Hotcake" shelter, built by Herb Crisler in the 1930s. This was an area he frequently visited in his filming of Olympic wildlife. Apparently, the Hotcake shelter still stands, though I never did locate it. I could just imagine him spending several days in this basin, complete with amazing views all around him!

Though the basin isn't officially named, I call it "Hotcake Basin."
