Cameron Loop,  Olympic National Park,  Sep 11, 2006 - Sep 14, 2006     page 7 / 76

I set up camp and made some dinner. Despite starting the trip with a pack weighing just 32 pounds, I decided to eat the heaviest of my freeze-dried meals on this first night out. I prepared red beans and rice. This was a meal I had tried on a previous trip. It was quite tasty and particularly filling. Afterward, I wandered up the trail and explored for a while. I hit the sack around 8:00 PM.

The next morning, I rose early, had some oatmeal, and packed my things. I began hiking around 7:30 or 8:00. I initially planned to camp at Cedar Lake the second night, but it was only a few miles away. Instead, I opted to hike the main trail, bypassing Cedar Lake, and press on into the Dosewallips valley. Perhaps this would give me additional time in the high country around Lost Pass and Cameron Pass, I reasoned.
