Cameron Loop,  Olympic National Park,  Sep 11, 2006 - Sep 14, 2006     page 50 / 76

I was tempted to camp in the pass for the night, but the wind and the clouds, combined with the weather forecast were a bit too persistent. I looked again to the sky. There was a clearly defined, curved edge to the clouds, running west to east. To the north was blue sky, with low cumulous clouds over British Columbia. This was a classic cold front, slowly moving in from the north. The cumuliform clouds would bring the showers which were forecast earlier in the week. The depression I'd found for making soup had obviously been camped in before, but there was really no way for me to set up my tarp. If precipitation began while on the ridge, I'd be too exposed. I opted to play it safe and descend into Cameron basin for the night.
