Cameron Loop,  Olympic National Park,  Sep 11, 2006 - Sep 14, 2006     page 13 / 76

I remained in the pass for over an hour, taking photos, eating, and admiring the views. While I was in the pass, the horseback riders arrived. The last few hundred feet of trail are rather narrow and somewhat unstable. I was not surprised to see the riders dismount, and lead their horses to the pass. As I understood it, they planned to head into the Dose valley and over Hayden Pass. How could they dare take animals over such steep terrain? As it turned out, I was either mistaken, or they decided against that plan of action, because they eventually left the pass back to the north.

View south from Gray Wolf Pass. Wellesley Peak dominates the horizon at right.
