Bailey Range Traverse,  Olympic National Park,  Jul 26, 2007 - Aug 1, 2007     page 81 / 97

Reaching Bear Pass, which is just a low point along a broad ridge, we could see into the upper Queets basin. The area was not at all as I expected. With the heavy snowfall last winter, the basin was almost completely snow covered. It appeared to have huge rolling moguls throughout. There were a few open meadows up high, where pink heather was in bloom. We found a creek in one of these areas to refill the water bottles.
