After passing Anderson Lake, the trail moves to the west side of the ridge. This area was cooler, being on the windward side of the ridge. We soon found ourselves on the top of the ridge near the national park boundary. The junction to the American Lake trail is located in this area. Locating that trail was a bit tricky due to the snow coverage in the area, though.
